Rakesh Sasidharan – Founder of Dawnbells Exclusive Interview

TheCconnects: Can you tell our readers a little about your professional journey & how did you come to your current role/position?

After graduating in Mechanical Engineering from VTU, Karnataka. I went on to work in different corporate roles namely as an analyst in various verticals such as media, energy, sustainability, procurement, research etc. After completing MBA in marketing from Periyar University and along the way, I decided to drop out and start my own concern called Dawnbells. Currently, I run Dawnbells as a founder and entrepreneur.

TheCconnects: Who has influenced you the most in life and why?

I am influenced by different people, mostly the unicorn founders based out of Bengaluru. Besides spiritual teachers and my mother, who worked as a PHD scientist, with an abundant source of energy. I was inspired by the vision, energy and purpose of the individuals.

TheCconnects: What are the biggest challenges you have faced in your life & how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenges were far and many, starting out with the lean recession period during my earlier employment days. After facing a lot of rejections, I was able to land a job in a company, which is now acquired by Genpact. After switching three companies and my stint abroad, I dropped out to start a firm based on market predictions in the e-publishing space, which was predicted to grow to 20% market share from the then 3%, but it didn’t actually materialise. I had to quickly think on my feet before the breakeven period and we ended up diversifying into mobile applications.

TheCconnects: What lessons have you learned from your professional career?

To always be active and network right, instead of complacency. Actively seek collaboration and partnerships besides building a good core team and keeping an effective marketing strategy in place.

TheCconnects: What do you see as the biggest challenge for brands in the digital space?

In the competitive and low attention span landscape, customers and clients seek something unique in terms of value and cost. I would rate the positioning of the product/offering in the digital space as the biggest challenge for brands who actively seek customer engagement and retention.

TheCconnects: How your product/solution can help to resolve the pain points of your customers?

We started out with e-publishing services and have gone onto diversify into varied areas in the ed-tech, media, LMS and Ai space. We have developed three independent products, out of which two are live, called Uha and Iskribe. Another product is in the POC stage, and a service-based offering is in the pipeline too. We address educational requirements of students through our skill-based product called Uha, which is an earn while you learn application, currently available on the Google playstore. Iskribe is for content creators and influencers, allowing media uploads with a PPV model. Dawnbells continues to offer e-publishing services.

TheCconnects: What do you do in your free time?

I am an author, so write my books. I also enjoy singing, travel, yoga, and adventure sports, besides being an automobile enthusiast.

TheCconnects: Do you have any advice for those who want to be an entrepreneur/chief … officer?

Never give up and keep yourself motivated despite the setbacks. Being innovative helps too.
