Alok Choubey: Thank you for having me. My journey in education started from a deep-seated passion for physics during my school days. Early on, I worked with traditional classroom settings, but over time, I realized that the digital space could break barriers and reach countless learners. My transition from a conventional educator to taking up a role at Unacademy, after an enriching stint with PhysicsWallah, was driven by the desire to democratize education. I wanted to make high-quality learning accessible and engaging for students regardless of their geographic location. It’s been an incredible journey of continuous learning and adaptation.
TheCconnects: That’s truly inspiring. Along the way, who would you say has had the greatest influence on your life, and in what ways did they shape your career?
Alok Choubey: There have been several people who influenced my path, but if I had to choose one, it would be my first physics teacher. His ability to simplify complex theories and instill a sense of wonder in his students left a lasting impression on me. He taught me that true education isn’t just about delivering content; it’s about igniting curiosity and confidence. This approach has guided my teaching style ever since. Additionally, colleagues and mentors in the ed-tech space have also contributed significantly, encouraging me to embrace digital tools and innovative pedagogical techniques. Their belief in the transformative power of education played a huge role in my transition to digital platforms.
TheCconnects: Transitioning from traditional classrooms to the digital realm certainly must have come with its own set of challenges. Could you talk about some of the biggest hurdles you’ve faced in your career and how you overcame them?
Alok Choubey: Absolutely, the shift wasn’t without its challenges. One of the initial hurdles was adapting to a new technology-driven environment. Traditional teaching methods had to be reimagined for an online format. I had to learn how to leverage digital tools effectively, from interactive video lessons to virtual whiteboards, to engage a remote audience. Another significant challenge was ensuring that the content remained relatable and accessible despite the medium change. I tackled these challenges by constantly seeking feedback from my students and colleagues. I experimented with various formats and approaches until I found methods that resonated well with the learners. The key was to stay flexible and embrace change rather than resist it.

Engaging with other educators and tech experts has not only enriched my teaching practices but has also fostered an environment of mutual growth and shared success.

For education, this means not just having quality content but also creating engaging, interactive, and personalized learning experiences. Additionally, there’s the challenge of maintaining authenticity and trust. In an age where digital content is ubiquitous, ensuring that learners receive accurate and reliable information is paramount. Brands need to invest in robust quality assurance processes and be transparent about their methodologies to build and retain trust.

These activities keep me grounded and rejuvenated, allowing me to bring fresh energy and creativity back to my professional life.
