Jayant Poogalia: My professional journey began in the IT sector, where I spent 25 years working in various roles. Over the years, I gained extensive experience in technology, project management, and leadership. However, after my father’s passing, I felt a strong desire to honor his legacy in healthcare. My father had founded Sanjiwani Chikitsa Kendra, and I saw an opportunity to continue his work by expanding the family business. This decision marked a significant turning point in my life. I left the comfort of my IT career and ventured into healthcare, a completely new field for me. Despite the challenges, within just 1.5 years, I was able to establish nine centers across six cities, transforming our family clinic into a thriving network. This journey has been both challenging and rewarding, as I’ve been able to combine my business acumen with a deep-seated passion for making a difference in the healthcare sector.

TheCconnects: Who has influenced you the most in life and why?

Jayant Poogalia: My father has been the most influential figure in my life. He was a man of remarkable integrity and lived his life with a level of honesty that is rare in today’s world. Growing up, I observed how he approached both his personal and professional life with an unwavering commitment to his principles. He never compromised on his values, no matter the situation. This instilled in me a deep respect for integrity and a belief that it is the foundation of any successful life or career. His influence has guided me through the toughest decisions, reminding me that success is not just about achieving goals, but about how you achieve them. His legacy is the moral compass that drives my actions, both in business and in life.

TheCconnects: What are the biggest challenges you have faced in your life, and how did you overcome them?

Jayant Poogalia: Transitioning from IT to healthcare was one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced. As a non-medical professional, stepping into the healthcare industry was daunting. I had to quickly learn the nuances of a new field while also ensuring that our clinics maintained the highest ethical standards. One specific challenge was ensuring that our doctors didn’t over-prescribe medications or order unnecessary tests, which is, unfortunately, a common practice in some parts of the industry. Balancing this ethical stance with the need to maintain a profitable business was not easy. To overcome this, I focused on building a strong culture of integrity within our organization. We made it a point to hire professionals who shared our values and trained our staff extensively on ethical practices. Additionally, I sought advice from industry experts and continuously educated myself to bridge the knowledge gap. This approach has allowed us to run a successful business while staying true to our ethical commitments.

TheCconnects: What lessons have you learned from your professional career?

Jayant Poogalia: Throughout my career, one lesson stands out above all others: understanding your ‘WHY’ is crucial. It’s easy to get caught up in the ‘WHAT’—the daily tasks, the goals, the metrics. But if you don’t have a compelling ‘WHY,’ a purpose that drives you, it’s difficult to sustain long-term success. Your ‘WHY’ should be something that excites you, something you’re passionate about, and something you would be willing to dedicate your life to. For me, the ‘WHY’ has been to continue my father’s legacy of providing honest and accessible healthcare. This purpose gives me the motivation to push through challenges and keeps me focused on the bigger picture. Another important lesson is the value of integrity. In business, as in life, your reputation is everything. Building a business based on trust and ethical practices may take longer, but it creates a foundation that is far more resilient in the long run.

Jayant Poogalia: The digital space offers incredible opportunities for brands, but it also presents significant challenges. One of the biggest challenges is standing out in an incredibly saturated and fast-paced environment. With so many brands vying for attention, it’s easy to get lost in the noise. The digital landscape is also constantly evolving, which means that strategies that work today might not be effective tomorrow. To overcome these challenges, brands need to be highly adaptable and innovative. It’s not just about having a digital presence; it’s about creating a distinctive voice and offering genuine value to your audience. Brands that succeed in the digital space are those that can build authentic connections with their customers and stay ahead of trends by being flexible and forward-thinking.

Photography is one of them; it allows me to capture moments and express creativity in a way that is both relaxing and fulfilling. I’m also deeply involved in social service, which is a way for me to give back to the community and stay connected to the values my father instilled in me. Running is another activity I enjoy—it’s not just about staying fit, but also about clearing my mind and finding a sense of peace. These activities help me maintain a healthy work-life balance and keep me energized for the challenges of running a business.

Jayant Poogalia: My advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and C-suite executives is to start with a strong understanding of your ‘WHY.’ This core purpose will be your guiding light through the ups and downs of your journey. Focus on integrity—building a business on a foundation of trust and ethical practices will pay off in the long run. Design your business with scalability in mind; from the outset, think about how your operations can grow without compromising on quality. Relationships are also crucial—prioritize building strong, meaningful connections with your team, customers, and partners. Finally, be resilient. Entrepreneurship is full of challenges and setbacks, but those who succeed are the ones who can persevere, adapt, and keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles.
