Vadiraj K. N: Producer, Writer, Lyricist & Author Exclusive Interview

TheCconnects: Welcome, Mr. Vadiraj K. N., to TheCconnects. It’s an honor to sit down with the visionary behind Prabhu Kunj Productions. Your work as a producer, writer, lyricist, and author has inspired many. Let’s dive into your journey. Can you share how you carved your path in the film industry and what led you to found Prabhu Kunj Productions?

Vadiraj K. N.: Thank you for having me. My journey began with a deep love for storytelling, rooted in my childhood in Karnataka, where I was surrounded by rich cultural traditions and narratives. I started as a writer, penning poems and stories, but I was drawn to cinema’s ability to amplify those stories and touch millions. My multilingual background, speaking nine languages, helped me connect with diverse audiences and narratives. Founding Prabhu Kunj Productions was a natural step to create films that don’t just entertain but provoke thought and inspire change. My short film Ek Sulagta Sawal was a turning point, addressing child abuse and earning seven awards at the 2024 Marathwada International Film Festival. It gave me the confidence to build a platform for socially impactful cinema.

TheCconnects: That’s inspiring. Your work often carries a strong social message. Who has been the biggest influence in shaping your vision for filmmaking?

Vadiraj K. N.: My greatest influence is my wife, Jyoti Vadiraj, who is also the co-owner and executive producer at Prabhu Kunj Productions. Her unwavering support and belief in my vision have been my anchor. Beyond her, I draw inspiration from legends like Dadasaheb Phalke, whose pioneering spirit in Indian cinema reminds me to stay true to my roots while pushing boundaries. Globally, filmmakers like Satyajit Ray and Akira Kurosawa have shown me how cinema can reflect society’s truths while remaining deeply human. Their ability to blend art with purpose drives me to create films like Veerta ki Chingari, which honors the sacrifices of Indian Army soldiers.

TheCconnects: Speaking of Veerta ki Chingari, it sounds like a deeply personal project. What challenges have you faced in bringing such ambitious projects to life, and how did you overcome them?

Vadiraj K. N.: Every project has its hurdles, but Ek Sulagta Sawal was particularly challenging due to its sensitive subject matter. Tackling child abuse required balancing raw emotion with respect for the audience’s sensibilities. We faced skepticism from some quarters about its commercial viability, but I believed in its message. My team and I conducted extensive research, collaborating with NGOs to ensure authenticity. Budget constraints were another hurdle, but we leaned on creative resourcefulness, using minimalistic sets and focusing on powerful performances. Winning the Dadasaheb Phalke Janmabhoomi Puraskar in 2025 validated our efforts. For Veerta ki Chingari, the challenge is scale. It’s my directorial debut, and depicting the lives of soldiers and their families demands precision. We’re overcoming this by working closely with military advisors to ensure every detail resonates with truth.

TheCconnects: That dedication to authenticity is evident in your work. What are some key lessons you’ve learned from your career that you’d like to share with our readers?

Vadiraj K. N.: One lesson is that purpose fuels perseverance. When you believe in your story’s impact, no obstacle feels insurmountable. Another is the importance of collaboration. Filmmaking is a team effort, and respecting every role, from the cinematographer to the editor, creates magic. I’ve also learned that audiences crave authenticity. They connect with stories that reflect their struggles and aspirations, which is why I focus on real issues like child protection or soldiers’ sacrifices. Finally, never stop learning. Whether it’s mastering a new language or studying global cinema, growth keeps you relevant.

TheCconnects: Your films indeed resonate deeply. In today’s digital age, what do you see as the biggest challenge for filmmakers and brands in reaching audiences?

Vadiraj K. N.: The digital space is a double-edged sword. On one hand, platforms like OTT and social media offer unprecedented reach; on the other, the noise is overwhelming. The biggest challenge is cutting through that clutter to deliver meaningful content. Audiences are bombarded with information, so filmmakers and brands must prioritize authenticity and emotional connection. Superficial content gets lost, but stories that speak to universal truths, like love, sacrifice, or justice, stand out. At Prabhu Kunj Productions, we focus on narratives that spark conversations, ensuring our films don’t just entertain but linger in the audience’s mind.

TheCconnects: How does Prabhu Kunj Productions address the pain points of audiences seeking meaningful content?

Vadiraj K. N.: Our audience craves stories that reflect their realities and inspire change. We address this by choosing subjects that matter, whether it’s child safety in Ek Sulagta Sawal or patriotism in Veerta ki Chingari. We engage with communities and experts to ensure our films are grounded in truth. For instance, our upcoming coffee table book series on Ayodhya, Mathura, and Kashi taps into India’s spiritual heritage, offering readers a visually immersive experience. Our devotional songs, like Chalo Ayodhya Jayenge, sung by Sudesh Bhosle, connect with listeners on a cultural and emotional level. By blending art with purpose, we create content that resonates and uplifts.

TheCconnects: Your versatility as a lyricist and author is remarkable. What drives you to explore so many creative avenues?

Vadiraj K. N.: Creativity is my way of connecting with the world. Writing lyrics, like for Prabhu Ramlalla, allows me to express devotion and cultural pride. Authoring books, like the pilgrimage series, lets me preserve India’s heritage in a tangible form. Each medium, film, music, literature, offers a unique way to tell stories. I’m also excited about my upcoming venture into singing with the Shri Hanuman Chalisa. It’s about pushing my boundaries and honoring the legacy of Indian art. My goal is to create a holistic ecosystem where every project, whether a film or a song, serves a larger purpose.

TheCconnects: That’s a powerful vision. When you’re not crafting films or writing, what do you do to unwind?

Vadiraj K. N.: I find peace in simple things. Spending time with my family, especially Jyoti, grounds me. I’m an avid reader, diving into everything from Indian mythology to global literature. Music is another escape, I often listen to classical ragas or devotional songs to recharge. I also enjoy traveling to India’s sacred sites, like Ayodhya, which inspire my work. These moments of reflection help me return to my projects with fresh energy and perspective.

TheCconnects: Your passion for India’s cultural heritage shines through. What advice would you give to aspiring filmmakers or entrepreneurs in the creative industry?

Vadiraj K. N.: First, find your ‘why.’ Your purpose will guide you through challenges. Second, stay authentic, don’t chase trends; tell stories that matter to you. Third, build a strong team. Surround yourself with people who share your vision but bring diverse skills. Finally, give back. Whether through films or philanthropy, like my planned charitable trust for underprivileged communities, use your platform to make a difference. Success isn’t just about awards or box office numbers; it’s about the lives you touch.

TheCconnects: That’s profound advice. One final question: what’s next for Vadiraj K. N. and Prabhu Kunj Productions?

Vadiraj K. N.: We’re gearing up for Veerta ki Chingari, which I’m directing and have written. It’s a tribute to our soldiers, and we’re aiming for a National Film Awards submission and a screening at IFFI, Goa. I’m also recording the Shri Hanuman Chalisa and working on the coffee table book series. Long-term, I want Prabhu Kunj Productions to be a beacon for meaningful storytelling, blending cinema, music, and literature to inspire and uplift. My dream is to leave a legacy of art that transforms society for the better.

TheCconnects: That’s a vision worth celebrating. Thank you, Vadiraj, for sharing your journey and insights. We can’t wait to see what you create next.

Vadiraj K. N.: Thank you for this opportunity. I hope my story inspires others to dream big and create with purpose.
