Rocky K, Founder and Director of GenX9 Events | Exclusive Interview

In the glittering, high-stakes world of event management, creating magic looks effortless from the outside. But behind the velvet ropes, spotlight cues, and seamless celebrity entrances lies a world of intense hustle, split-second problem solving, and raw entrepreneurial grit. Few understand this dichotomy better than Rocky K, the visionary Director of GenX9 Events.

Rocky’s origin story is anything but conventional. He didn’t start with a silver spoon or a massive investment fund; he started as an Associate HR in an IT MNC, dreaming of something bigger. Today, GenX9 Events is a powerhouse in Hyderabad and across India, boasting a 100% client satisfaction rate, having executed over 250 premium events, and reaching an audience of 50,000+. From high-profile corporate launches and luxury destination weddings to managing the spotlight at Miss & Mrs India Royale, Rocky has built a brand where events truly come alive.

TheCconnects recently sat down with Rocky to discuss his wild 15-year rollercoaster ride, the infamous midnight pitch that launched his empire, and what it really takes to orchestrate unforgettable human experiences.

TheCconnects: Rocky, it is an absolute thrill to sit down with you today. Your journey from a corporate HR desk to the red carpets of luxury event management is the ultimate entrepreneur’s rollercoaster. Can you take our readers back to the exact moment this dream started?

Rocky K: The thrill is entirely mine! You know, when I look back at the last 15 years, it feels like a movie script. The brainchild for GenX9 actually started when I was working a comfortable 9-to-5 job as an Associate HR in Admin and Recruitments for an IT MNC. I was doing well, but I constantly had this itch for aggressive career growth and financial independence. I would spend my off-hours brainstorming ways to build something real.

The turning point was incredibly dramatic. Picture this: I had been cold-calling international clients, trying to land a virtual animation project. It was around midnight, and I was actually in the restroom when my phone rang. It was a conference call with an Edutech client from the US. I took a deep breath, took the call right there, pitched our capabilities, and absolutely nailed it. I walked out of that restroom having bagged a ₹15 Lakh project! That was the spark. We officially launched our website on Independence Day-August 15, 2011. What started as a virtual tech setup eventually transformed into my true passion: GenX9 Events.

TheCconnects: That is legendary! A midnight pitch changing the course of your life. Transitioning from IT and HR into live, luxury event management is a massive leap. Who or what influenced this pivot, and how did your HR background help?

Rocky K: Honestly, my biggest influence has always been the sheer desire to challenge the status quo. I live by a very simple motto: Never say die, and be yourself.

My background in HR was actually the perfect training ground for event management. In HR, you learn the psychology of people-how to manage expectations, negotiate, and keep people motivated under pressure. Live events are exactly the same, just louder and with better lighting! The pivot happened organically because my personal core values-being open-minded, self-motivated, brave, flexible, and adaptable-are the exact survival skills you need in the event industry. Passion was the ultimate catalyst that gave birth to GenX9 Events.

TheCconnects: You have successfully managed over 250 events, including massive live shows and pageants. What are the most intense challenges you face behind the scenes, and how does your team pull it off?

Rocky K: In the event industry, unpredictability is our daily bread. You can plan for months, but on the day of the event, you are dealing with hundreds of live variables-weather changes, artist delays, technical glitches, or last-minute client requests.

One of the biggest challenges early on was building a vendor network that shared my obsession with perfection. I realized quickly that to deliver premium, luxury experiences, you cannot just be a middleman. We overcame this by taking absolute, end-to-end ownership. Today, we have a bulletproof network of top venues, decor teams, and technical crews. When chaos hits backstage, my team absorbs it completely. Our clients never see the sweat; they only see the magic.

TheCconnects: Looking at the modern consumer, what do you see as the biggest challenge for brands trying to make an impact in today’s highly digital space?

Rocky K: The biggest challenge for brands today is attention fatigue. Everyone is staring at a screen, scrolling past thousands of digital ads a day. Brands are struggling to make people put their phones down and actually feel something.

This is where GenX9 steps in. We tell our corporate clients that you cannot just launch a product; you have to launch an experience. We take a brand’s digital identity and translate it into a tangible, immersive environment. Whether it is a brand pop-up, a corporate networking session, or a high-end exhibition, we design spaces that force the audience to engage all five senses. We don’t just create events; we create memories.

TheCconnects: You’ve been making waves in artist and celebrity management recently. You were even spotted interacting with Vamsi TV at the Miss & Mrs India Royale pageant. How does GenX9 ease the pain points for clients in such high-pressure environments?

Rocky K: Events like Miss & Mrs India Royale are incredibly high-stakes. The pain points for organizers usually revolve around managing VIP egos, coordinating tight schedules, and ensuring the brand looks flawless on camera.

Our core strength is that we act as a singular shield for our clients. Instead of the client running around coordinating between the media, the celebrities, and the stage crew, GenX9 handles it all. When I was doing the media interactions against the branded backdrops, it wasn’t just about PR; it was about ensuring the narrative of the event was perfectly controlled and celebrated. We optimize their budgets, deliver premium hospitality, and ensure flawless execution so the client can actually sit back and enjoy their own show.

TheCconnects: With an incredibly demanding schedule-going from corporate seminars to DJ sundowners-what do you do in your free time to recharge your batteries?

Rocky K: To be honest, an entrepreneur’s mind never truly shuts off. I view business like an ocean. The deeper you dive into it, the more opportunities you find to explore. My “free time” often naturally blends with my passion for discovering new lifestyle trends, networking, and conceptualizing wild new event themes. But to stay sane, I make sure to step back, reflect on how far we’ve come since that midnight phone call, and stay grounded. A calm mind is the best tool an event planner can have.

TheCconnects: What are your future goals for GenX9 Events, and what advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs looking to break into this space?

Rocky K: The journey never ends. Our future goal is to aggressively expand into luxury, large-scale destination events and partner with premium national brands. We want to cement GenX9 as a trusted, national event powerhouse known for introducing innovative experiential formats.

For aspiring entrepreneurs: Be brave. The event industry will test your limits, but you must be adaptable. Don’t be afraid to make those cold calls, because you never know which one will change your life. Build strong relationships through trust, focus on the details, and never compromise your creative vision.

TheCconnects: Rocky, this has been an incredibly inspiring and high-energy conversation. Thank you so much for joining us in this interview and sharing your fantastic advice. It has been an absolute pleasure to have you with us!

Rocky K: Thank you so much for having me. The pleasure was entirely mine. To everyone reading out there: Happy Exploring, Never say die, and Always Keep Rocking!
