Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee, Product Leadership & Digital Wallet Researcher | Exclusive Interview

In the high-stakes world of Capital Markets and FinTech, where trillions of dollars move through digital “plumbing” every day, Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee has carved out a unique space as a “Scholar-Practitioner.” With over 19 years of industry experience-most recently as a Product Manager at Broadridge-and a recently completed Doctorate in Business Administration, he is a man who understands both the code and the consumer.

Recognized by the U-N Book of World Records as an “Innovative Researcher” and currently pursuing Postdoctoral research on Digital Wallet Platforms, Dr. Pritam is the author of the late-2025 release, CASHLESS REVOLUTION – TRANSFORMING WORLD DEALS.

In this exclusive deep dive with TheCconnects, we explore the shift from manual testing to product strategy, the behavioral science of digital wallets, and why the future of money isn’t just digital-it’s human.

TheCconnects: Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee, it’s a privilege to have you. You’ve spent nearly two decades navigating the giants of the tech world-Accenture, CGI, and now Broadridge. Looking back, how did the Software Engineer of 2007 become the FinTech Product Strategist of 2026?

Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee: It’s a pleasure to be here. If I look at the trajectory, the evolution has been from “How do we build this?” to “Why are we building this?” My early years at Accenture and CGI were a masterclass in technical discipline-testing, requirements, and understanding the core architecture of financial products.

However, as I moved into Product roles, I realized that technical excellence is wasted if it doesn’t solve a visceral user pain point. My transition into Product Management was driven by a hunger to sit at the intersection of business strategy and technology. At Broadridge, I’ve had the opportunity to work digital transformations where we aren’t just updating software; we are reimagining how capital markets function. My doctorate and postdoctoral research were simply a natural extension of that-I wanted to ground my practical experience in rigorous data and behavioral insights.

TheCconnects: You’ve been recognized for your “Innovative Research” on digital wallets. Who has influenced your perspective on technology and life the most during this climb?

Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee: My influences are quite diverse. Professionally, I am inspired by the “Invisible Innovators”-the product thinkers and builders who design seamless experiences, make complex systems feel simple, and quietly shape how millions of people interact with financial services every day.

On a human level, my greatest influence is the Indian consumer. There is something profoundly moving about seeing a small-town vendor in India use a digital wallet with more confidence than a corporate executive might have had a decade ago. Academically, the mentors at the Swiss School of Management and the Indian School of Business (ISB) pushed me to look at “Money Flow Orientation.” They influenced me to see Fintech not just as a set of tools, but as a sociological shift. They taught me that if you want to understand the future of the wallet, you have to understand the heart of the person holding it.

TheCconnects: You recently authored the book CASHLESS REVOLUTION – TRANSFORMING WORLD DEALS. We are in a time where everyone talks about “going digital,” but your book suggests something much deeper is happening. What is the core message you want to give your audience?

Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee: The core message is that the “Cashless Revolution” is a revolution of Transparency and Inclusion. When we move to digital wallets and UPI, we aren’t just making payments faster; we are bringing the “unbanked” into the formal financial fold.

However, the book also serves as a warning. The adoption of digital payments isn’t uniform. While urban centers are sprinting toward a fully digital life, rural areas still face a “Trust Deficit.” The book highlights that the future may not be 100% cashless, but rather a Hybrid Model. We need cash for resilience and digital for efficiency. My goal is to remind businesses and governments that innovation without user protection and digital literacy is just another form of exclusion.

TheCconnects: With 19 years in the field, you’ve seen products succeed and fail. What do you see as the single biggest challenge for brands in the digital space right now?

Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee: The challenge is “The Friction of Trust.” In FinTech, we are obsessed with “Seamless UX”-one-click checkouts and instant onboarding. But in the user’s mind, “too easy” can sometimes feel “insecure.”

Brands are struggling to balance cybersecurity and privacy concerns with the demand for speed. If a brand ignores digital literacy or fails to account for cybersecurity risks, they lose the user forever. The challenge is “Contextual Adoption”-building features that resonate with a user’s “Money Flow Orientation.” You cannot treat a small business owner in a tier-3 city the same way you treat a high-frequency trader in Bengaluru.

TheCconnects: Your research into the “Wallet Platform Index” is groundbreaking. Can you explain how digital wallets are specifically transforming small businesses?

Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee: For small businesses, digital wallets are more than just a payment method; they are an Operating System. Formerly, a small merchant was at the mercy of cash-on-hand and slow bank clearances. Digital wallets provide Instant Liquidity.

By integrating with accounting software and customer management tools, these wallets decrease administrative burdens. They allow a small business to offer a “Big Brand” experience through smooth checkouts and loyalty programs. My research shows that early implementers of these technologies see a measurable boost in customer satisfaction and, more importantly, a healthier cash flow due to the elimination of fund-clearing delays.

TheCconnects: Between postdoctoral research, leading product roadmaps at Broadridge, and writing books, how do you find time to “unplug”?

Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee: (Laughs) It’s a balancing act! I find that my “unplugging” often involves storytelling. I enjoy writing on Medium and mentoring aspiring product leaders. There’s a certain clarity that comes from teaching others-it forces you to simplify the complex. I’m also an avid reader of emerging tech trends; for me, seeing how AI and Cryptocurrencies are intersecting with digital payments is actually quite relaxing. It’s about staying curious.

TheCconnects: Finally, Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee, what is your “Golden Rule” for aspiring entrepreneurs and product leaders entering the FinTech industry in 2026?

Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee: My golden rule is: “Solve for the Skeptic, not just the Early Adopter.” It’s easy to build for people who already love tech. The real value-and the real “revolution”-lies in building products that make a skeptical, rural user feel safe.

Focus on Behavioral FinTech. Don’t just track clicks; track the intent behind the click. Master the art of “Requirement Shaping”-translate a vague business need into a precise technical story. And finally, remember that in FinTech, you are not just managing data; you are managing a person’s hard-earned life savings. Treat that trust with the respect it deserves.

Key Takeaways from the “Cashless Revolution”

  • Financial Inclusion: Digital wallets are the ultimate bridge for connecting unbanked populations to formal systems.
  • Operational Efficiency: For businesses, digital payments improve cash flow, reduce transaction fees, and simplify accounting.
  • The Hybrid Future: A resilient economy requires a balance between digital innovation and the backup reliability of cash.
  • Security First: Encryption, tokenization, and biometric verification are the new non-negotiables of consumer trust.

Editorial Closing Note

Dr. Pritam Bhattacherjee represents the new vanguard of Product Leadership-one that is equally comfortable in a PhD dissertation defense and a high-level corporate boardroom. His latest book, CASHLESS REVOLUTION – TRANSFORMING WORLD DEALS, is a must-read for anyone looking to understand the mechanics of the modern economy. As we move closer to 2028, his research into the “Wallet Platform Index” will likely become the benchmark for how we measure the success of digital financial ecosystems.
