The atmosphere at Flamingo Club & Resort right now is exceptionally vibrant. We are currently hosting a mix of families enjoying quiet staycations and corporate groups utilizing our MICE facilities. Seeing the property come alive with guests interacting with nature-spending time at our bird-watching decks or enjoying the sunset-while experiencing premium hospitality is deeply fulfilling. I am very excited to share our story with you today.
TheCconnects: Your professional transition is truly remarkable. Moving from the intense, highly analytical world of law into the hospitality sector is a massive leap. Can you tell our readers a little about this journey and what inspired you to create Flamingo Club & Resort?
Dipakbhai J. Popat: It certainly was a significant transition! For over forty years, my life as an advocate was governed by logic, disputes, and courtrooms. While it was a deeply rewarding career, I reached a point where I wanted to build something that was entirely focused on joy, connection, and tranquility.
The Diu tourism circuit is beautiful, but I noticed a distinct gap in the market. There was a need for a holistic destination where families, corporate groups, and wedding parties could experience modern luxury without being disconnected from nature. I didn’t just want to build another concrete hotel; I wanted to create an ecosystem. That vision gave birth to Flamingo Club & Resort. It was a leap of faith to step out of a four-decade comfort zone, but building a space where people come to celebrate and create lifelong memories has been the most rejuvenating chapter of my life.
TheCconnects: That commitment to nature has clearly paid off. Winning the FHRAI “Green Hotel of the Year (E)” Award is a massive achievement. What does this recognition mean to you, and how do you balance modern luxury with eco-conscious hospitality?
Dipakbhai J. Popat: For us, being recognized as a Green Hotel by an institution as respected as FHRAI is not just an award to display in the lobby-it is the very foundation of our identity. Sustainability in hospitality is often viewed as a compromise on luxury, but we wanted to prove that the two can coexist beautifully.
We balanced this by integrating the environment directly into the guest experience. Instead of cramming the property with rooms, we designed 31 spacious accommodations-including 20 independent villas and premium suites-spread across open, natural surroundings. We built dedicated sunset and bird-watching decks, and created safe spaces where children can interact with rabbits and birds. We ensured that our footprint respects the local ecology. The award validates our belief that modern travelers deeply crave this peaceful connection to the environment just as much as they desire premium amenities.
TheCconnects: Every successful business solves a specific problem for its customers. The Diu region is highly popular, but it presents certain challenges for specific demographics. How does Flamingo Club & Resort address these specific customer pain points?
Dipakbhai J. Popat: You hit the nail on the head. One of the most significant pain points for families traveling to the Diu region is finding a high-quality, pure-vegetarian dining experience. It is surprisingly difficult. We addressed this directly by establishing a state-of-the-art, 70-seater restaurant serving premium, multi-cuisine, pure-vegetarian food. It has become a massive draw, not just for our in-house guests, but for visitors across the region.
Another major pain point we solved is the logistical nightmare of destination weddings and large corporate retreats. Usually, families have to book rooms in one hotel, a banquet in another, and a lawn elsewhere. At Flamingo, we brought everything under one roof. We have a 500-person party lawn, a 150-person banquet hall, and accommodations for the entire wedding party. Whether it is an intimate baby shower or a massive corporate dealer meet, we provide a seamless, single-destination solution.

Dipakbhai J. Popat: In law, your primary objective is to resolve conflict. In hospitality, your primary objective is to facilitate happiness. The greatest lesson I have learned is that regardless of the industry, the core of all successful business is genuine human empathy.
People do not just remember the thread count of their bedsheets or the size of the banquet hall; they remember how a place made them feel. When I see families gathering on the lawn for a wedding, or ladies’ groups enjoying a peaceful weekend getaway, I realize that we are not selling rooms-we are hosting human experiences. Attention to detail and a genuine desire to serve are the ultimate business differentiators.
TheCconnects: With such a sprawling property to manage, you must be incredibly busy. What do you do in your free time to unwind?
Dipakbhai J. Popat: The beautiful irony of building a resort is that you create your own perfect sanctuary! In my free time, I simply step out of the operational mindset and enjoy the property as a guest would. I spend time at the bird-watching deck-there is something incredibly meditative about observing nature. I also deeply cherish spending quiet, quality time with my family on the sunset deck. Disconnecting from screens and reconnecting with the natural environment is how I recharge my batteries.

Dipakbhai J. Popat: My advice is to stop viewing hospitality merely as a real estate or infrastructure business. Anyone with capital can build a structure with 50 rooms. To succeed today, you must build an ecosystem with a clear soul. Be profoundly mindful of the environment-green, sustainable hospitality is not a passing trend; it is the absolute future.
