Welcome, Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy! It is an absolute privilege to have you with us today. From your early days as an HR Manager in the corporate sector to serving as the Director of Special Projects and Project Counsellor at the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, your journey is truly remarkable. Furthermore, a massive congratulations on receiving the prestigious Global Peace & Humanity Award 2025 for your role as a Peace Committee Member during the Old Rajendra Nagar incident. Given your demanding schedule managing national projects, conducting psychological counseling, and running training academies, we truly appreciate you taking the time for this conversation. How have you been, and what has been keeping you most occupied lately?
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: Thank you so much for the incredibly warm welcome! It is a true pleasure to connect with TheCconnects. I have been doing very well. Lately, my days have been intensely packed with a mix of national project management and active psychological counseling. I am deeply occupied with overseeing operations across the Southern Region, conducting soft skills and leadership training for executives, and working on various capacity-building initiatives for students. It is a demanding phase, but contributing directly to the nation’s human capital development keeps me highly energized and focused.
TheCconnects: Your career sits at a fascinating intersection of psychology, corporate human resources, and high-level public service. Can you tell our readers a little about your professional journey and how you came to your current role?
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: My journey has always been driven by a deep fascination with human behavior and its potential. I began my career in the corporate IT and BPO sectors, heading HR and training for companies like Magna Group LLC. In the corporate world, the focus is highly strategic-you align human capital with business goals, manage change during mergers, and drive ROI through training.
However, while pursuing my Ph.D. in Human Resources Management at Sikkim Manipal University, my perspective broadened significantly. My research focused on how the effectiveness of training and development directly impacts employee performance at an organizational level. I realized that the true power of HR isn’t just in building profitable companies; it is in nation-building. That realization prompted my transition into the public sector. Joining the Ministry of Labour & Employment allowed me to scale my impact. Today, whether I am formulating HRM policies or counseling students, my goal remains the same: to open a horizon for positive change and help people deal with life’s concerns effectively.
TheCconnects: Behind such a dedicated public servant and leader, there is usually a strong guiding force. Who has influenced you the most in life and why?
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: My greatest influences have been the everyday individuals I counsel-the students, the working executives, and the job seekers. When you sit across from someone who is struggling with their career path or navigating a severe workplace conflict, their resilience profoundly influences how I view the world. Additionally, my academic mentors during my time at Pondicherry University, where I led the Management Professionals Committee, taught me early on that leadership is not about authority; it is about service and empathy. Their guidance fundamentally shaped my ethical approach to human resources.
TheCconnects: You have navigated corporate environments and highly sensitive government initiatives. What are the biggest challenges you have faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: One of the most intense challenges was my recent role as a Peace Committee Member during the Old Rajendra Nagar incident in New Delhi. You had thousands of UPSC aspirants-some of the brightest minds in the country-who were under immense psychological distress, and an administrative machinery trying to maintain order.
The challenge was bridging the massive trust deficit. When people feel unheard, tension escalates rapidly. I had to step in with active empathy, utilizing crisis counseling to de-escalate the anger and fear on the ground. We overcame the crisis by creating a bridge of dialogue based on mutual respect rather than authority. Receiving the Global Peace Award for that effort was humbling, but the true reward was seeing harmony restored and knowing those young aspirants felt their concerns were validated.
TheCconnects: What key lessons have you learned from your professional career, particularly regarding training and development?
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: The most vital lesson is that motivation without measurement is just temporary excitement. We often see people attend a seminar, feel inspired for two days, and then revert to their old habits. When I conduct soft skills training or leadership workshops, I don’t just want to impart knowledge; I want to forge new behaviors. Measurability holds both the trainer and the trainee accountable. By setting clear KPIs for behavioral shifts, we can see tangible growth. Change management must be deliberate, and you have to provide solid support structures for people during that change.
TheCconnects: Adapting to today’s landscape, what do you see as the biggest challenge for brands and organizations in the digital space?
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: The single biggest challenge for brands in the digital space is maintaining authentic human connection amidst rapid automation. We are producing brilliant coders, engineers, and digital strategists, but many struggle with interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and relationship management. The digital space is the new global workplace. If brands rely entirely on digital tools to replace human interaction rather than to enhance it, they will lose their internal culture and their customer trust.
TheCconnects: How do your specific training services and counseling solutions address these exact pain points for your clients?
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: My solutions bridge the gap between technical knowledge and emotional intelligence. For corporate clients, I offer full HR outsourcing and organizational development consultation that aligns their workforce with their strategic direction. I conduct targeted workshops on problem-solving, creative thinking, and executive coaching. For students, through initiatives like Shanvi Academy-which recently earned its ISO 9001:2015 certification-we provide career planning, smart studying techniques, and government exam training. I address their pain points by ensuring that every training module is practically applicable and emotionally grounding.
TheCconnects: With such a heavy mandate-managing national projects, running academies, and conducting deep psychological counseling-what do you do in your free time to decompress?
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: I am a firm believer in balancing the mind and body. Going back to my university days, I was a champion in debate, carrom, and chess. I still turn to chess to unwind; it keeps the strategic part of my brain active but in a relaxed state. I also dedicate time to philanthropic efforts, such as supporting the families of our CRPF Bravehearts through initiatives like Bharat Ke Veer. Giving back to society in quiet, unpublicized ways brings me immense peace and grounds me. Besides that, I continuously upskill myself through platforms like LearnTube to stay updated on digital trends.
TheCconnects: Finally, do you have any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and young professionals in your industry?
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: My advice is two-fold. First, master the art of listening. In a world obsessed with speaking and broadcasting on social media, the one who listens actively gains the most critical data. Second, treat your own psychological well-being as your greatest asset. Entrepreneurship and leadership are grueling journeys. You will face setbacks, market shifts, and failures. If your internal foundation-your mental health and your core values-is strong, no external crisis can break you. Build your character with the exact same intensity that you build your career.
TheCconnects: Dr. Karthickeyan, this has been an incredibly insightful conversation. Your perspective on merging public policy with deep psychological empathy is exactly what the modern workforce needs. Thank you so much for sharing your time and wisdom with us today.
Dr. Karthickeyan Kaliyamoorthy: Thank you very much for having me. It was a wonderful dialogue, and I deeply appreciate TheCconnects for providing this platform to share my journey with your readers.
