Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: Thank you for having me. Growing up in Bhayander, Mumbai, I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by marginalized communities. My upbringing in a middle-class family exposed me to both the struggles and resilience of these communities. After completing my B.Sc. in IT from Mumbai University, I felt a strong calling towards social work. In 2023, I founded Mazi Saheli Charitable Trust with the vision to empower underprivileged communities through education, healthcare, livelihoods, and community development initiatives.
TheCconnects: It’s inspiring to see such dedication. Who would you say has been your greatest influence in pursuing this path?
Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: My greatest influence has been my own experiences and the stories of those around me. Observing the hardships faced by my community and realizing the potential for change fueled my determination. Additionally, leaders like Ratan Tata, known for their philanthropic endeavors, have inspired me to integrate compassion with action.
TheCconnects: Recognizing challenges is crucial in this field. What have been some of the significant obstacles you’ve encountered, and how did you navigate them?
Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: One of the primary challenges was mobilizing resources in the initial stages. Establishing credibility and building trust within the community required consistent effort and transparency. Collaborating with local businesses and engaging community leaders helped bridge gaps and garner support.

Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: I’ve learned that understanding the community’s needs is paramount. It’s essential to listen actively and design programs that resonate with their realities. Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: Authenticity stands out as a significant challenge. With the vast amount of information online, consumers are adept at distinguishing genuine brands from those merely seeking attention. Brands must be transparent, uphold their values, and engage meaningfully with their audience to build trust.

Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: We focus on a holistic approach. Our educational programs not only provide academic support but also offer mentoring and life skills training. In healthcare, we collaborate with local hospitals to offer regular check-ups and health education. For livelihoods, we conduct workshops to enhance skills and connect individuals with potential employers, ensuring sustainable income opportunities. Our community development initiatives bring residents together to identify and address local challenges through collective action.

Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: I find solace in music, reading, and writing poetry. These activities allow me to reflect and recharge. Additionally, spending time with family and friends provides a balanced perspective on life.

Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: My advice would be to remain patient and persistent. Social change is a gradual process, and resilience is vital. Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: We aim to expand our reach across rural Maharashtra, focusing on education and community development. Our ultimate goal is to create a self-sustaining model where communities are empowered to drive their own progress.

Avinash Rajesh Chauhan: One memorable moment was when a group of women from our vocational training program started their savings and SHGs group to start their own cooperative. Seeing them transform into confident entrepreneurs, supporting their families, and inspiring others was a testament to the potential within every individual when given the right support.
