In the traditionally male-dominated world of construction and interior materials, a quiet but powerful revolution is taking place in Bengaluru. If you walk through the streets of Banaswadi, alongside the familiar orange of Swiggy and red of Zomato, you will notice a striking new addition: the purple-clad delivery fleet of Priyadarshini Spaces.
At the helm of this logistical and e-commerce marvel is Priyadarshini Sreevinoth. An electronics engineer by education with a corporate background at TCS, Priyadarshini took a bold leap in November 2022 to found Priyadarshini Spaces. In just a few years, she has transformed the startup into a formidable one-stop e-commerce destination for building materials, boasting a 3,000 sq. ft. Experience Centre, 10,000+ SKUs, and India’s first WhatsApp API Catalogue for construction products.
Driven by a vision of women’s empowerment and a deep-seated belief in building strong human relationships, Priyadarshini is redefining how homeowners, architects, and builders procure materials. TheCconnects recently sat down with her to discuss her inspiring transition from IT to construction logistics, the power of WhatsApp commerce, and what it takes to break the glass ceiling in the heavy materials industry.
TheCconnects: Priyadarshini, it is an absolute honor to speak with you today. First of all, a belated Happy Birthday and congratulations on the third anniversary of Priyadarshini Spaces! Your journey from holding a B.E. in ECE and working at TCS to leading a construction e-commerce platform is fascinating. How did this transition happen?
Priyadarshini Sreevinoth: Thank you so much for the warm wishes! It has been an incredible journey. My background is indeed in Electronics and Communication Engineering, and my early professional days were spent in the corporate IT sector at TCS. However, I always harbored a dream of building something tangible-something that enhanced the strength and beauty of people’s dream homes.
Society often tells young women that certain industries are off-limits or that such grand opportunities are myths. But I was an idealist. The transition happened when I recognized the massive, unorganized gap in the construction and interiors procurement sector. Partnering with the brilliant “brainchild” of our operations, Er. Sreevinoth T-who brings over two decades of supply chain and construction experience-we decided to merge digital innovation with heavy logistics. That is how Priyadarshini Spaces was born in November 2022.
TheCconnects: It takes a lot of courage to disrupt an established market. Who has influenced you the most in your life and entrepreneurial journey?
Priyadarshini Sreevinoth: My biggest influence has been my family, particularly Er. Sreevinoth, who has been the strategic anchor of this business. His vast corporate experience with brands like Livspace, Biocon, and CBRE provided a blueprint for our supply chain.
However, on a deeper level, I am influenced by the everyday women in my community. Seeing their resilience inspires my own. I am a firm believer that opportunities come from business relationships, not just business plans. The people I worked with in the past-through both the good and the bad times-prepared me for this internet journey. Their lessons shaped my core philosophy: we don’t build a business; we build people, and our people build the business.
TheCconnects: The construction materials sector is notoriously male-dominated. What were the biggest challenges you faced stepping into this arena, and how did you overcome them?
Priyadarshini Sreevinoth: The initial challenge was simply getting taken seriously. Navigating a male-dominated industry means you constantly face societal expectations and biases about what a woman can or cannot handle-especially when it involves heavy logistics, warehousing, and trade technicians.
I overcame this by being relentlessly hands-on. I didn’t just sit behind a desk; I personally oversaw the loading and unloading of materials at our warehouses. When your team and your customers see you on the ground, handling the grueling operational realities, the gender bias quickly fades, and respect takes its place. Hard work and an uncompromising work ethic are the ultimate equalizers.
TheCconnects: You have successfully moved a very “brick-and-mortar” industry online. What do you see as the biggest challenge for brands in the digital space today?
Priyadarshini Sreevinoth: The biggest challenge in the digital space is trust and tactile verification. When a customer buys a shirt online, the risk is low. When a builder or a homeowner is buying premium interior fit-outs or construction materials worth lakhs, they want to touch and feel the product.
To solve this digital hurdle, we adopted a hybrid, “phygital” approach. While we have a massive digital presence, we backed it up with a 3,000 sq. ft. air-conditioned Experience Centre in Bangalore and a doorstep sample service. We use the digital space for speed and discovery, but we close the trust gap with physical, professional service.
TheCconnects: Speaking of speed and discovery, Priyadarshini Spaces launched India’s first WhatsApp API Catalogue for construction products. How does this specifically address your customers’ pain points?
Priyadarshini Sreevinoth: The primary pain points in construction procurement are fragmented suppliers, zero price transparency, and massive delays. A homebuilder usually has to coordinate with ten different vendors, negotiate prices blindly, and pray the materials arrive on time.
We addressed this by bringing 8,000+ products under one roof, and more importantly, putting 1,400+ live products directly onto our WhatsApp API. Now, a customer, architect, or contractor can just send a ‘Hi’ to our number, browse thousands of products, compare prices, and order instantly. Furthermore, because of our direct brand partnerships and centralized warehousing, we offer up to a 20% cost reduction for end-users, backed by timely, tracked deliveries. We took a highly stressful process and made it as easy as sending a text.
TheCconnects: Your purple-clad delivery team has become quite iconic in Banaswadi, standing alongside Swiggy and Zomato fleets. How crucial is logistics to your success?
Priyadarshini Sreevinoth: It is everything. You can have the best e-commerce platform in the world, but if the cement, tiles, or interior fittings don’t reach the site on time, the entire project stalls. Our purple fleet is a symbol of our commitment to the last-mile delivery. We have an incredibly strict supply chain management roadmap-from estimates to tax invoices, dispatch, live tracking, and post-sales support. That rigorous logistical control is what is allowing us to expand our services Pan-India.
TheCconnects: As a mother, a leader, and a hands-on entrepreneur, your plate is incredibly full. What do you do in your free time to decompress?
Priyadarshini Sreevinoth: Balancing business responsibilities with family obligations is a constant juggling act, but my family is my ultimate grounding force. In my free time, I focus on being fully present as a mother. I also dedicate time to women’s empowerment initiatives within my community. Helping other women realize their potential and supporting their entrepreneurial dreams is not just a side project for me; it is deeply fulfilling and recharges my energy for the business week ahead.
TheCconnects: What are the key lessons you have learned from your professional career so far?
Priyadarshini Sreevinoth: 1. Innovation must be customer-centric: Technology like our WhatsApp API only works because it directly solves a customer headache. 2. Integrity is your best marketing strategy: In the construction business, a delayed delivery can cost a client thousands of rupees in labor downtime. Delivering on your promises with integrity builds brand loyalty that money cannot buy. 3. Your team is your backbone: Whether it’s the sales team, the tech developers, or the delivery personnel in purple, their growth is the company’s growth.
TheCconnects: Finally, do you have any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially women looking to enter unconventional or heavy industries?
Priyadarshini Sreevinoth: Do not let your environment or society dictate what you are capable of. The barriers you perceive are often just myths waiting to be broken. Enter the market with a strong value proposition, be willing to get your hands dirty, and leverage digital tools to level the playing field. Most importantly, build genuine relationships. Success is a collaborative effort, so empower the people around you, and they will help you build your dream.
